Hero

Today I will be reviewing the book 'Hero' written by Sarah Lean who wrote the book called 'A dog called Homeless' another popular book. This novel is about a boy called Leo who dreams about being a hero. In his imagination he is a fearsome gladiator, but wants to be a hero in real life.

When the boys at school dare Leo to do something he know is wrong, he lets everybody down. How can he make things right again?

When a little dog called Jack Pepper goes missing it will take a true hero to find him and bring him home.

This book is a sweet story about a little boy with a big imagination. Leo leads a normal existence except in his head where he imagines himself to be a great gladiator. In trying to find his way Leo makes a bad decision and it is with the help of a little dog that he will find out what he is really made of and what it really means to be a hero. Sarah Lean takes us into the head and heart of a young boy and the one friend who sees him for who he really is. I think it is great for younger readers and animal lovers. This is a powerful story about bravery, truth, friendship and what it means to be a real hero. Here is a picture of the cover of the novel:

I guarantee once you start the book you won't be able to put it down until your finished it. It is an incredible book that is definitely worth taking the time to read. Imagination, bullying, honesty and discovery are the components that make this a good book. I loved the honesty and self-reflection at the end that wasn't preachy but real and sincere. This is a good discussion book for younger readers! If you like books about animals and learning to discover who you are then I guarantee that you will love this book.
I hope you liked my book review, look out for more soon.
Saraya. Xx
